Abstract: La panchina verde è sempre lì, nel boschetto che la famiglia di Bénédicte ha ereditato da un vecchio antenato ferito sul lavoro. Ricoperta di bianco in inverno, lucida di pioggia in autunno, già scolorita dal sole estivo, resta lì, di stagione in stagione, ferma, ad attendere che qualcuno vi si sieda o faccia di lei l’arredo immaginario di un nuovo gioco. Quando suo padre si ammala Bénédicte decide di ‘giocare’ con le immagini in super 8 della sua famiglia e liberarle dalla sofferenza del ‘non più’. I ricordi sono cose del presente e possono abbinarsi ad esso come la fermezza di una noce alla tenerezza del suo interno. Un boschetto al Borinage col carbone delle Ande. La cucitura tra passato e presente ha la trama sottile di un montaggio all’imperfetto. Fiori e tripudi di primavere che sempre si rinnovano. Il vento che scompone, il sole che comprime. Dal valzer di ricordi emerge la figura di una giovane donna che da figlia, moglie e madre, non smette di girovagare in quel bosco di ricerche e di attese, di corse e di teatri all’imperfetto. Quando sedevamo, quando ridevamo, quando accadeva questo o quello... É nella trama di questo gioco di rimandi che i ricordi si liberano dalla stretta della malinconia, dall’angoscia delle domande, facendosi puro tempo. Quello del gioco.
The green bench is always there, in the wood inherited by Bénédicte’s family from an old ancestor who was injured in his work. Covered with snow in winter, gleaming with rain in autumn, already faded under the summer sun, it stays there, season after season, still, waiting for someone to sit or play, making it the imaginary prop of a new game. When her father got sick, Bénédicte decided to ‘play’ with the super-8 pictures of her family, releasing them from the pain of ‘being no longer.’ Memories are things of the present. They can combine with it as the firmness of a walnut does with the tenderness of its kernel. A small grove in Borinage with the coal of the Andes. The seam between past and present is sewn as subtly as an editing in the imperfect tense. Flowers and jubilant, always renewing springs. The wind breaks, the sun constricts. From the waltz of memories emerges the figure of a young woman. As daughter, wife, and mother, she keeps on wandering in that wood of quests and waits, races and theatres in the imperfect tense. When we sat down, when we laughed, when this or that happened… in the texture of this game of cross references, the memories are set free from the grip of melancholy, the anxiety of questions, and become pure time. The time of play.
