Abstract: “Imbiss – Spezial” è il film cerniera tra la produzione di Heise realizzata nella RDT e quella successiva. Ambientato in una tavola calda situata in una stazione della metropolitana, coglie gli avventori del piccolo ristorante in una situazione d’attesa irreale nella quale fervono i preparativi per i festeggiamenti del quarantesimo anniversario della fondazione della RDT. Alla fine del film, il colore irrompe per la prima volta nel cinema di Heise. “Speravo che il mio prossimo film sarebbe stato “Vaterland” e avevo fatto vedere a Gerhard Scheuman del materiale girato su VHS. Lui sapeva delle lettere di mio padre e dei soldati russi. Dopo una discussione veloce con alcuni responsabili della DEFA, decise che “Vaterland” non aveva possibilità di essere realizzato e dovetti farmi venire al volo un’altra idea. La prima era semplicemente di girare il 7 ottobre 1989 perché era chiaro sin dall’inizio dell’anno che quel giorno sarebbe accaduto qualcosa. La seconda riguardava mio fratello che lavorava come cuoco nella stazione Berlin-Lichtenberg. Le sue relazioni mi avrebbero aperto tutte le porte. Sarebbe stato più facile parlare con i suoi colleghi della pizzeria anche di altro, della vita. Le due idee messe insieme hanno prodotto Imbiss – Spezial” (T. Heise).
“Imbiss – Spezial” is the turning point between Heise’s GDR production and what came after. Set in a cafeteria located in an underground station, it captures the customers in an unreal condition of wait while the preparation for the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the GDR foundation are in full swing. At the end of this film, colour breaks into Heise’s cinema for the first time. “I was hoping my next film would be “Vaterland”. I had shown Gerhard Scheuman the material recorded on videotape. He knew about the letters of my father and the Russian soldiers. After a quick discussion with a few DEFA officials, he decided that it was not possible to produce “Vaterland” and I had to come up with a new idea as fast as I could. The first idea was simply to shoot on October 7th, 1989, because it had been clear since earlier that year something would happen that day anyway. In the second place I thought of my brother who was working as a cook in the Berlin-Lichtenberg station. His relationships would open all doors for me. It would be easier to talk with his pizzeria colleagues also about other things, about life, for instance. The two ideas were put together and produced Imbiss – Spezial” (T. Heise).
