Abstract: Già nel 1981 Thomas Heise intendeva realizzare un film a Eisenhüttenstadt, la ex Stalinstad creata nel 1950, ossia la prima città socialista della RDT che aveva poi cambiato nome nel 1961. Il film fu interrotto il primo giorno di lavorazione dalla Abt. Innere Angelegenheiten (sezione affari interni). Il progetto originario del regista consisteva nel seguire Anka, Karsten, Frank e Tilo che all’epoca erano bambini, i nati della seconda generazione di quella che era considerata la prima città socialista della RDT. Dieci anni dopo, tutto è cambiato. Ma Heise decide di verificare cosa (r)esiste ancora di quella che nelle sue intenzioni doveva essere «una storia della RDT». “L’autorizzazione per la sceneggiatura veniva rinviata di riunione in riunione. Mancava sempre qualcosa. Infine, in maniera del tutto insolita, mi era stata chiesta anche una perizia. Grazie a Dio, l’esperto per dare un parere sul progetto potevo sceglierlo da solo. In realtà si trattava di procrastinare le cose all’infinito e di farmi lavorare a vuoto. Un metodo davvero idiota. Non siamo mai riusciti ad iniziare le riprese. Ho fatto solo delle registrazioni audio con Tilo Paulukat che cantava le canzoni di Neil Young e che ho utilizzato dieci anni dopo. Quando Tilo era già morto” (T.H.).
Thomas Heise had been meaning to realise a movie in Eisenhüttenstadt (literally, city of iron works) already in 1981. This was the former Stalinstadt created in 1950, i.e. the first socialist city in the GDR whose name had been changed in 1961. The shooting was interrupted on the first day by the Abt. Innere Angelegenheiten (Domestic Affairs Department). According to the film director’s original project, he would follow the life of Anka, Karsten, Frank, and Tilo, who were still children at that time. They stood for the second generation born in the town which was advertised as the first socialist city on German soil. Ten years later, everything has changed. Heise though decides to see what is still (r)ex(s)isting in «a history of the GDR» (as he thought the project should be). “The script approval was being delayed meeting after meeting. Something was always missing. At the end, very unusually, an expert opinion was also requested. Thank God, I could choose the expert who should assess the project. In reality it was all about delaying things forever, and having me work in vain. A truly stupid method. We were never able to begin shooting. I was only able to record Tilo Paulukat who sang Neil Young’s songs. I used that ten years after. When Tilo was already dead” (T.H.).
