Abstract: In modo molto equilibrato, “The German secret” solleva gradualmente il velo che copre il passato della danese Kirsten Blohm, che ha cercato per anni la verità dietro le sue origini. Chi era suo padre? E chi era esattamente sua madre? Kirsten Blohm (nata nel 1946) conosceva sua madre, ma la bella Signe Gondrup, descritta come "fredda", non ha mai voluto rivelare nulla della sua vita, tanto meno chi fosse il padre di sua figlia. Blohm è cresciuta con i nonni. Raccontando la sua storia, indagando a fondo il passato di sua madre a un certo punto Kirsten Blohm prova imbarazzo a procedere. Ma non può arrendersi. Continua a seguire le orme di quella madre inafferrabile, che la portano nella Repubblica Ceca e in Germania. La storia d'amore tra sua madre e un ufficiale tedesco rivive attraverso fotografie, filmati storici e musica degli anni '40 e '50, e viene inserita nel contesto dell'Europa devastata dalla guerra. La ricerca di Blohm libera anche emozioni che non si aspettava. Le condivide con il suo amorevole regista, che non abbassa la telecamera nemmeno quando lei lo abbraccia.
In well-balanced doses, “The German secret” gradually lifts the veil covering Danish Kirsten Blohm’s past. Blohm has been looking for the truth behind her lineage for years. Who was her father? And who exactly was her mother? Blohm (1946) did know her mother, but that beautiful Signe Gondrup, who is characterised as "cold," never wanted to disclose anything about her life, let alone about her daughter’s father. Blohm was raised by her grandparents. Blohm, who tells the story herself, probes so deeply into her mother’s past that at a certain point even she finds it embarrassing. But she cannot give up. She keeps following her elusive mother’s footsteps, which take her to the Czech Republic and Germany. The romance between her mother and a German officer is revived.by means of photographs, historical footage and music from the forties and fifties, and put in the context of war-torn Europe. Blohm's search also releases emotions she had not expected. She shares them with her loving director, who does not even put the camera down when she embraces him.
