Abstract: Un viaggio in cerca dell’anima nera del Rio de la Plata. Lungo le strade di Buenos Aires e di Montevideo capita di ascoltare un rombo farsi strada fra le malinconiche note del tango e di vedere apparire un gruppo di 30 o 40 neri con il fragore dei loro tamburi. Schierati geometricamente e avanzando con piccoli passi sono l'evidente rappresentazione di un gruppo di schiavi africani. Ecco il Candombe, sopravvivenza di antichi ritmi africani sincretizzati e riadattati a nuovi luoghi e nuovi contesti. Questo documentario ricrea le traiettorie di questa cultura musicale seguendo i percorsi umani di tre personaggi molto diversi fra loro: Lobo Nunez - uno dei più grandi percussionisti uruguaiani; Egle Martin - poliedrica artista argentina: starlette, attrice, regista teatrale e musicista; Javier Lago - meccanico che incarna l’incontro del Candombe con la strada, suo luogo di origine e sopravvivenza. Attraverso la voce e la carne di questi protagonisti, lo spettatore entra in contatto con questo ritmo e con gli antichi spiriti africani, che continuano ad esistere, sotto varie forme, in ogni luogo.
A journey in search of the black soul of the Rio de la Plata. Along the streets of Buenos Aires and Montevideo, it happens to hear a rumble make its way through the melancholic notes of the Tango and to see a group of 30 or 40 blacks appear with the roar of their drums. Arranged geometrically and advancing with small steps, they are an obvious metaphor for a group of African slaves. This is Candombe, the survival of ancient African rhythms syncretized and readapted to new places and new contexts. This documentary recreates the trajectories of this musical culrura by following the human paths of three very different characters. Lobo Nunez - one of Uruguay's greatest percussionists. Egle Martin - political Argentinian artist: starlet, actress, theatre director and musician. Javier Lago - a mechanic who embodies Candombe's encounter with the street, its place of origin and survival. The spectator will come into contact, through the voice and flesh of these protagonists, with this rhythm and with the ancient African spirits that continue to exist in various forms and in every place.
