Abstract: In un'epoca in cui i talenti erano rivoluzionari ed eterni, Wilson Simonal (1938-2000) brillava come nessun altro per il suo carisma, la sua simpatia, il suo stile. Tutto questo lo rese la star di maggior successo in Brasile ma conquistò anche molti fan all'estero. All'improvviso, tutto è finito. Pettegolezzi, accuse, misteri, appostamenti ed inseguimenti: che fine ha fatto Wilson Simonal? Il documentario descrive l'impressionante traiettoria di un ex soldato dell'esercito, che ha regnato sovrano sulla cultura pop ma ha finito per essere ostracizzato per un crimine di cui si è sempre proclamato innocente. Con interviste di amici, nemici e, soprattutto, attraverso le immagini delle esuberanti performance di questo grande artista, il film risponde ad alcune domande rimaste fino ad oggi senza risposta: Simonal ha lavorato come informatore per la dittatura brasiliana? Era amico dei militari? Oppure il suo più grande crimine fu quello di essere nero, milionario e sex symbol in un paese e in un'epoca in cui il razzismo governava la società?
At a time when talents were revolutionary and eternal, Wilson Simonal (1938 - 2000) shone like no other with his charisma, sympathy and style. All this made him the most successful star in Brazil, but he also won many fans abroad. Suddenly, it was all over. Gossip, accusations, mysteries, stalking and chasing: what happened to Wilson Simonal? The documentary describes the impressive trajectory of a former army soldier, who reigned supreme over pop culture but ended up being ostracised for a crime he always claimed to be innocent of. Through interviews with friends, enemies and, above all, through images of the exuberant performances of this great artist, the film answers some questions that have remained unanswered until now: Did Simonal work as an informer for the Brazilian dictatorship? Was he a friend of the military? Or was his greatest crime to be black, a millionaire and a sex symbol in a country and at a time when racism ruled society?
