Abstract: Uno dei grandi temi dibattuti nella storia del cinema sarà sempre la questione se i film che ritraggono la guerra e la affrontano possano essere definiti film "contro la guerra". Dopo la guerra del Golfo, in particolare, la questione di quale contributo il giornalismo “integrato” possa dare alla questione è venuta alla ribalta. In “Occupation: Dreamland” - un titolo da intendere in tutti i sensi del termine - una troupe americana accompagna l'Unità 24/7 della 82a Divisione Aviotrasportata. Una divisione diventata leggendaria grazie al suo impegno in Normandia durante il "giorno più lungo".
The question of whether films presenting war footage can be termed “anti-war films” will no doubt remain a subject of heated debate in the future history of the cinema. The latest expansion of that question, especially since the third Gulf War, has to do with the role of "embedded” journalism. The very ambiguity of this film’s title - “Occupation Dreamland” - allows it to be understood in every possible sense. The film is a compilation of footage obtained by an American camera team following Unit 24/7 of the 82nd Airborne Division. This division owes its fame to the Normandy invasion on “the Longest Day”.
