Oppure: “dell'amore in assenza dell'amata”. Starà via ancora a lungo? (c.z.)

Waiting for the only voice with the power of healing. Or, “Of Love in Absentia of the Beloved.” Valentin Stepanovich is the one and only inhabitant of a forsaken place where even the streets are missing. Clocks tick away relentlessly and spiders weave their webs in a pearlescent universe where The City is just a metallic sound from the radio and rain the only movement outside. “How can I get by without my old lady? Will she stay away for much longer? What is the meaning of this life?” The conversation begins with pressing inner, almost ravenous questions that have no answer. The past inside the present, basically the time of waiting, which makes an enemy of any suggestion of rest. Advancing without going anywhere, clouding over when no one picks up the phone. The body in love is wrinkled and white-bearded. Being so ancient, it resorts to false tools with the only aim of feeling the other. He swears against time and bad weather, old age and sickness, until the one who was so longed for manages to ask for the presence of the one who’s been seeking desperately. The repertory of daily needs barely holds the underlying hymn to love sung by Razgovor in all its distant sheen. (c.z.)
