Abstract: A Gibilterra non sono gli spagnoli o la Regina d'Inghilterra a comandare, ma le scimmie. Le scimmie sono diventate talmente padrone del territorio, che si è reso necessario un servizio di ordine pubblico per tenerle sotto controllo e per respingerle fuori dalla città, con l'ausilio di alcune cerbottane. Osserviamo la giornata dei macachi, che come in un gioco di guardie e ladri, tentano ogni stratagemma per ingannare i loro “domatori”. Chi controlla chi? Chi si fa gioco dell'altro? Chi vincerà? Gibilterra si trasforma in un campo di battaglia dove si svolge una lotta, tra esseri umani e scimmie, per la conquista del territorio. Una riconquista da parte della natura rispetto alla civiltà e l'uomo, che esige il suo spazio nonostante i primati fossero lì prima di loro e che più degli uomini siano sopravvissuti alla storia, come ci spiega il cartello introduttivo del film tratto da Storia di Gibilterra del 1782: “Nè le invasioni dei Mori, né degli Spagnoli, né degli Inglesi, e nemmeno i cannoni o le bombe, sono riusciti a scacciarle”. Una riflessione su i confini che abbiamo infranto e che infrangiamo con prepotenza in onore della cosiddetta 'civiltà'.(l.d.a.)
Gibraltar is not ruled by the Queen of England or the Spaniards, but by monkeys. Monkeys became so prevalent in dominating the territory that it was found the need to employ some people to keep them at bay and to push them out of town with the help of some blowpipes. In this film we can observe a day in the life of these apes, which, as in a play of Police and Thieves, try any kind of strategy to fool their “tamers”. Who is controlling who? Who is fooling the other? Who is going to win? So, Gibraltar turns into the Territory, the film’s title, a fight to conquer the territory between human beings and our prime ancestors. A reconquer of the nature from civilization and human beings, who want their space regardless of the fact that primates have been there before them and that they survived history more than men, as explained by the film introductory sign taken from the 1782 History of Gibraltar: “Nor the Moorish, Spanish or English invasions, not even cannons and bombs managed to push them away.” An analysis on the borders we have broken and we are still breaking ruthlessly in the name of the so-called 'civilization'.(l.d.a.)
