Abstract: In un piccolo Internet Point nel quartiere parigino di Belleville, frequentato da immigrati, la camera osserva i gesti e le parole di persone che si trovano in uno stato di perpetua erranza, che non appartengono pienamente al luogo in cui vivono, ma al tempo stesso non appartengono più al Paese che hanno lasciato. Tra loro c'è Moustafa, un immigrato algerino che vive la sua condizione sospesa e che diventa, attraverso lo sguardo della regista, di origine libanese, una sorta di doppio, di luogo d’incontro di due condizioni che si riconoscono, che condividono la stessa esperienza. Un film in cui il microcosmo diventa esperienza condivisa tra la macchina da presa e i corpi che vengono ripresi; un cinema che osserva e al tempo stesso partecipa di una condizione, creando immagini che fanno, di una condizione personale, un atto collettivo. (d.d.) “Ho cercato di indagare la nostra condizione: come ancorarsi qui, quando abbiamo come punto di orizzonte il Paese che abbiamo lasciato; come negoziare tra il qui e il laggiù, come gestire il nostro paese a distanza, il nostro posto mancante. questo fuori campo invisibile, eppure così presente: là”.
In a little Internet café in Belleville, the Parisian district, whose customers are mainly immigrants, the camera watches the gestures and speech of people who find themselves perpetually wandering. They do not belong fully in the place where they live but they don’t belong anymore to the country they’ve left either. Among them, there is Moustafa, an Algerian immigrant in this condition of suspense who becomes, through the eyes of the film-maker of Lebanese origin, a sort of double. In him, two conditions that recognize each other and share the same experience meet on the same ground. The microcosm of the film becomes an experience shared by the camera and the people filmed. This cinema both observes and participates in a condition, creating images that make a personal condition a collective act (d.d.) “I tried to explore our condition: how to find roots here, while our horizon is still in the country we’ve left; how to negotiate the here and the over there, how to cope with our country from a distance, our place missing, this invisible off-screen, and yet so present: there.”
