Abstract: Finlandia. Un fotografo si aggira nei pressi della strada alberata che conduce all’Hotel Aulanko, geometrico ed essenziale edificio inaugurato alla fine degli anni Trenta, intorno al quale generazioni di Finlandesi hanno passato i loro momenti di svago. L’albergo è stato anche il luogo della misteriosa morte di Sirkka Sari, astro nascente del cinema finlandese all’alba della Seconda Guerra Mondiale: il bianco, alto comignolo che svetta sulle foreste all’intorno è stato l’unico testimone della rovinosa caduta che ha ucciso l’attrice in circostanze ancora oggi misteriose. Il giallo incrocia il saggio sociologico, il biopic s’intreccia al thriller paranormale, il colore si alterna al bianco e nero in un film che accumula materiali, stili, voci e volti come un investigatore che cerca un ordine ai propri indizi. Un metatestimone – il fotografo che scatta istantanee mentre il film passa da un ambiente all’altro, da una scena all’altra – diventa il filo rosso che tiene insieme e spinge in un’unica direzione tutti gli eterogenei, pittoreschi pezzi dello stesso puzzle.(s.g.)
Finland. A photographer roams around a tree road leading to Hotel Aulanko, a geometrical and essential facility inaugurated at the end of the Thirties around which entire generation of Finnish people spent their spare time. The hotel was also the place of the mysterious death of Sirkka Sari, a rising star of Finnish cinema at the beginning of the Second World War: the white and high chimney dominating the surrounding forests was the only witness of the fall that killed the actress in still mysterious circumstances. This mystery is mixed with a sociologic essay, biopic crosses with paranormal thriller, colour is mixed with black and white in a film gathering materials, styles, voices and faces, as a detective trying to sort out to its clues. A meta-witness – the photographer shooting photos every time the film moves around spaces, one take after another – becomes the red wire holding the heterogeneous and picturesque pieces of the same puzzle together, pushing them in the same direction.
