Abstract: Abbiamo sempre considerato il vuoto esistenziale come una malattia e un “privilegio” dei Paesi occidentali ricchi. Da questa sponda ci siamo raccontati che su altre sponde la lotta per la sopravvivenza e per il cambiamento sociale è sì crudele ma riempie le vite di chi ne è coinvolto. Karim Sayad ci racconta un’altra versione: spiazzante e affascinante anche se scomoda. E’ la storia di due amici, Adlan e Terroriste, ragazzi di vita del Sacré Coeur, quartiere di Algeri. Ragazzi come tanti altri se ne trovano non solo in Algeria ma anche in Europa. Ragazzi che passano le loro giornate alla ricerca di qualche dinaro da spendere nei locali della città o per andare allo stadio a tifare il Mouloudia, la loro squadra del cuore. I pochi dinari raccolti con qualche espediente non bastano a riempire il vuoto di prospettive, di speranze, di ragioni per rimanere ad Algeri. Un vuoto condiviso con altri migliaia di ragazzi che nelle curve dello stadio cantano “their love for the team and dream about the boat that might, one day, take them far away from this unforgiving country” [K. Sayad]. Il vuoto mangia l’anima. Babor Casanova ci mostra proprio queste anime logorate e inquiete, che potremmo vedere tra qualche tempo tra le strade di Parigi, Losanna o Firenze.(v.i.)
We have always considered the void of existence as an illness and a “privilege” of rich Western countries. On this shore we have told ourselves that, in other shores, people fight for survival and social change, which is cruel, however, it fills the lives of who is involved. Karim Sayad tells us another version: surprising and fascinating even if it is hard to take. It is the story of two friends, Adlan and Terroriste, street urchins in Sacré Coeur, Algiers. Two boys like many others in Algeria and also in Europe. Boys who spend their days looking to earn some dinars to spend in the city venues or to go to the stadium to support Mouloudia, their favourite football team. The few dinars earned with some expedient are not enough to cover the void of perspectives, hopes, reasons to stay in Algiers. A void shared by thousands of boys who chant in the stadium “their love for the team and dream about the boat that might, one day, take them far away from this unforgiving country” [K. Sayad]. A void eating their souls. Babor Casanova displays these tired and restless souls which may show up in Paris, Lausanne or Florence in the near future.(v.i.)
