Abstract: Nell'autunno del 2006 Piergiorgio Welby, ammalato da anni di una grave forma di distrofia, chiede pubblicamente al Presidente della Repubblica Giorgio Napolitano il diritto di essere lasciato morire. Pochi mesi dopo, aiutato dai familiari e dagli attivisti radicali, Welby compie la sua volontà. "Love is All. Piergiorgio Welby, Autoritratto racconta la vita dell'uomo Welby attraverso le sue opere, quadri, libri, fotografie. "Love is All è un ritratto che tende all’autoritratto e nasce da otto anni di pedinamento delle tracce che la vicenda umana di Welby ci ha lasciato. Love is All è una storia d’amore che nasce dal nostro innamoramento per Piergiorgio, che era un uomo che amava la vita, amava gli altri, amava la libertà". I registi danno vita ai dipinti, alle foto e agli scritti di Welby e ritrovano il tracciato di un interminabile guardarsi vivere, gioire, soffrire. L'intera opera artistica e filosofica di Welby qui riflette la storia drammatica ma anche avventurosa e piena d'amore di un uomo che ha accettato di dover vivere nella trama poetica e crudele del “voler morire”.(p.m.)
In the autumn of 2006, Piergiorgio Welby, who had been ill for years with a severe form of dystrophy, publicly asked the President of the Italian Republic Giorgio Napolitano to be granted the right to die. A few months later, members of his family and radical activists helped him accomplish his will. Love is All. Piergiorgio Welby, Self-portrait describes the life of the man Welby by way of his works, paintings, books, and photographs. "Love is All is a portrait tending towards the self-portrait. We have followed him closely for eight years, preserving the traces of the human parable that he has left to us. Love is all is a love story that comes from our falling in love with Piergiorgio, who was a person in love with life, with the others, and with freedom." [F. Andreotti and L. Giunti] The film directors give life to Welby’s paintings, pictures, and writings, and unravel Welby’s interminable watching himself live, rejoice, and suffer. Welby’s entire artistic and philosophical work reflects the dramatic, but also adventurous and loving, story of a man who accepted to have to live along the both poetic and cruel stream of “wanting to die.”(p.m.)
