Abstract: Sulle spiagge dell’isola di Qeshm, nell’Iran meridionale, un gruppo di pescatori che fa ancora uso di tecniche arcaiche ha conservato un’enorme rete da pesca, chiamata “moshta”. Purtroppo il mare ha quasi esaurito le riserve ittiche. Il paesaggio è di una bellezza poetica e senza tempo, ma la realtà di un mondo che cambia è molto dura. Il documentario, dedicato al padre del regista, si fa portatore dei suoi sentimenti più profondi, fra cui una grande empatia nei confronti di una comunità indifesa di fronte al mutare dell’economia e della natura.
On the beaches of Qeshm island in southern Iran, a group of fishermen using archaic techniques preserve a huge fishing trap called “Moshta”. But the sea no longer yields the bounty of days gone by. Despite a landscape of timeless poetic beauty, we see the harsh reality of a changing world. Dedicated to the film-maker’s father, this documentary conveys the deeply personal sentiments of a man who feels great empathy with a community that is helpless in the face of economic and natural changes.
