Abstract: A distanza di anni da “Du verbe aimer”, Mary Jiménez torna in Perù per incontrare suo padre e intraprendere insieme a lui un viaggio a ritroso nel tempo e nella memoria, rivedendo insieme i luoghi e i momenti della sua vita, dall’infanzia al periodo della separazione, in cui la regista si trasferisce in Belgio per studiare cinema. Il film si sviluppa ricostruendo rapporti, svelando a poco a poco lo sguardo del padre sul mondo e, di conseguenza, il riflesso di tale sguardo su chi gli è stato vicino. Un film che lavora su relazioni perdute, fili dimenticati, tracce di una vita attraverso uno sguardo attento su luoghi e corpi, esistenze presenti e passate. Ma il filo conduttore di questa ricerca complessa è la scrittura. Lettere al padre, o del padre, lettere della madre o dei familiari. Carte invecchiate che conservano i segni di pensieri e rapporti, che rimangono tra le righe espresse e quelle mai scritte. Cinema che si fa indagine e diario, lettera e esplorazione di una vita; una vita che non è mai sola, ma sempre composta di relazioni. Un percorso filmico che accetta in toto la sfida di fare del cinema un luogo di interrogazione dell’esistenza.
Several years after “Du verbe aimer”, Mary Jiménez goes back to Peru. She intends to meet her father and set out with him for a travel back in time and memory. They should go back together to the places and moments of her life from childhood up to the separation, when the film-maker moved to Belgium to study film. As the film goes on, relationships are reconstructed and her father’s outlook on the world is unravelled – as is its reflection on those who were close to him. "Loco Lucho" works on lost relationships, forgotten threads, traces of a life by way of an attentive gaze onto places and bodies, present and past existences. But the central idea of this complex research is writing. We see letters to or from the father, letters from the mother, or relatives. Aged papers that preserve the signs of thoughts and relationships, remaining in-between the lines expressed and those never written. This cinema becomes investigation and diary, letter and exploration of a life - a life that is never alone but always made of relationships. A cinematic journey that takes on in full the challenge of making film a site for questioning existence.
