Abstract: Margot è una anziana donna, sola. Ha una figlia e una nipote, ma è quasi come se non le avesse: loro non la capiscono, lei non capisce loro. Margot non è francese, viene di lontano, vive a Parigi da molti anni ormai, ma ci vive ancora come se fosse di passaggio, da straniera. A passo svelto, attraversa la città, entra ed esce dalle case dei facoltosi borghesi che le danno lavoro come donna di servizio: entra, ordina, rassetta, pulisce le cose di altri, le stanze, gli oggetti, i rifiuti di altri, poi se ne va, non prima d’aver attraversato con la mente, con gli occhi e con le mani le vite di quegli sconosciuti che a mala pena incontra durante le sue quotidiane ronde casalinghe. Un racconto stranamente ellittico, sospeso tra la prosa descrittiva del documentario e la trasfigurazione romanzesca, disegna la silhouette discreta di un altro dei personaggi sradicati ai quali Danielle Arbid dedica tanta parte del suo cinema.
Margot is an old, lonely woman. She has a daughter and a granddaughter, but it’s almost as if they didn’t exist: they don’t understand her, she doesn’t understand them. Margot is not French, she comes from far away. She has lived in Paris for many years now, but she still lives as if just stopping by, like a foreigner. She walks briskly across the city, she comes and goes in the homes of the well-to-do bourgeois families for whom she works as cleaning lady: she comes in, tidies up, straightens up, cleans things that belong to others, rooms, objects, waste that belong to others, and then leaves. With her thoughts, eyes, and hands she goes through the lives of the unknown people that she barely meets during her daily house rounds. A bizarrely elliptical story, suspended between the descriptive prose of the documentary and the transfiguration of the novel, outlines the discrete silhouette of one more uprooted character in the gallery of Danielle Arbid’s cinema.
