Abstract: Nella foresta di un paese latinoamericano, due ex-guerriglieri si ritrovano in un sito di scavi clandestini per cercare il corpo di un compagno, scomparso trent’anni prima. I due scoprono di non essere piů gli stessi di quando combattevano per l’ideale comune. La tensione aumenta ed emergono i segreti che hanno determinato le loro vite. Il film – di finzione ma con una profonda attenzione verso il reale – č capace di restituire, attraverso la fatica del lavoro, i tempi lunghi dell’attesa, il succedersi dei giorni, le coordinate spazio-temporali di questa ricerca. Mentre i personaggi si rivelano, la loro veritŕ si riflette nello spazio della selva, dove si continua incessantemente a scavare nella convinzione che la memoria riportata alla luce conduca con sé una possibilitŕ di giustizia. “Un amico, un critico cinematografico esperto di strategie di marketing, ci chiese di non dire che questo era un film morale. Come cineasti, sfortunatamente, non abbiamo scelta e dobbiamo scontentare il nostro amico critico: con “Los condenados” abbiamo cercato di fare un racconto morale” (I. Lacuesta).
In the woods of a Latin-American country, two ex-guerrillas meet at a clandestine excavation site looking for the corpse of a comrade, who died thirty years earlier. They find out they are not the same as they used to be when fighting for a shared ideal. As pressure increases, the secrets that have been driving each other’s lives come to the surface. The film – a feature with a keen attention to reality – achieves the reconstruction of the long waiting, the days following one another, the space/time coordinates of this research by representing their toiling. As the characters are unravelled, their truth is reflected onto the space of the wilderness where they keep on digging, convinced that memory brought to light implies that some justice can still be done. “A friend, a film critic and expert in marketing strategies, suggested that we don’t say this was a moral film. As cineastes, though, we don’t have an option, and must disappoint our friend: with Los condenados, we tried to tell a moral tale” (I. Lacuesta).
