Abstract: “Immagini care per qualche istante / sarete presto una folla distante” cantava Charles Brassens in “Le passanti”, ed è proprio l’alone che lasciano certe vite in cui inciampiamo ogni giorno il protagonista di questo film. Frammenti di esistenze che rimangono impresse nella testa, discorsi che diventano la nostra colonna sonora, individualità che si mescolano e si sovrappongono. “Everything that passed stayed on… we are passers-by in a landscape: our comforting is not enough” scrive la poetessa olandese Johanna Kruit in “Oosterschelde Steam Pumping Station”, a cui questo film è dedicato. La provincia dello Zeeland odora di mare e ha l’eco del deserto. De Putter, si concentra sulle fermate dell’autobus vuote, testimoni pazienti dell’umanità che si affaccenda, spazi che si fanno luoghi sociali grazie al passaggio e all’incontro tra esistenze. Si materializza così sullo schermo quello spazio altrove che è la poesia: da una parte piccole storie di memorie, amori, arrivi e partenze, dall’altra la tenace resistenza dei luoghi. Tra il tempo che passa e noi che passiamo rimane solo la poesia.
“Cherished images seen but once, One day’s hopes all lost, And tomorrow will be forgot” sang Brassens in “Les Passantes”. The real protagonist of this film is the halo left behind by certain lives in which we stumble upon every day. Fragments of existences stay on in your mind, talks become your sound track, individual identities combine and overlap. “(…) Everything that passed stayed on (…) we are passers-by in a landscape: our comforting is not enough”, wrote Dutch poetess Johanna Kruit in “Oosterschelde Steam Pumping Station”, to which this film is dedicated. The Zeeland province smells of sea, but reminds you of the desert. Jos de Putter has focused on the empty bus stops, the patient witnesses of a busy humankind, and spaces that become social places thanks to existences coming and going. Thus, the elsewhere that is poetry materializes on the screen – on one hand, little stories of memories, loves, arrivals and departures, on the other hand the tenacious resistance of places. Between time going by and us passing by, only poetry stays on.
