Abstract: Wojciech Staroń viaggia con la famiglia in un luogo remoto della campagna polacca, Mołtajny, situato vicino al “centro geografico dell’Europa”. Lo scopo è quello di fare un film sulle difficili condizioni di vita di chi vive in quei luoghi, impoveriti ulteriormente dopo la caduta del comunismo. Dall’osservazione delle difficoltà e della povertà degli abitanti, la camera sposta però l’obiettivo e lo rivolge alla facilità con cui il figlio Janek, quattro anni, si crea un gruppo di amici con cui giocare, condividere momenti di vita e di allegria, nonostante le differenze. Anche in questo film la camera di Staroń è vicina e attenta ai suoi protagonisti, ne condivide le avventure, si rotola con loro nei prati, diventa compagna di giochi e testimone del momento di crescita e di scoperta di cui è protagonista Janek.
Wojciech Staroń travels with his family to an isolated place in the Polish countryside, Mołtajny, near the “geographic centre of Europe,” with the goal of making a film about the difficult living conditions of those who live in those areas, further impoverished after the fall of the communist regime. At first, the camera observes the hardship and poverty of the inhabitants. Then Staroń turns his attention towards his four-year-old son, Janek, who in spite of the differences effortlessly creates for himself a group of friends to play with and share moments of life and fun. In this film too, Staroń’s camera is close and attentive to the characters. It shares their adventures, rolls over on the lawns along with them, becomes their playmate, and testifies to the moment of growth and discovery that Janek is experiencing.
