Abstract: Il cinema non appartiene al passato, ma si rende sempre presente, perché le sue immagini non smettono di abitare il nostro tempo. È a partire da questa considerazione che si sviluppa il tema di “Sol”, variazione personale di un regista contemporaneo sull’opera di “Charlie” “Chaplin”. Un piccolo omaggio e al tempo stesso una riflessione sul tempo del cinema, sulla sua attualità, sulla sua persistenza nella memoria, quella dei singoli individui così come quella della collettività. Nato da un progetto collettivo di diversi artisti chiamati ad omaggiare la figura di Chaplin, “Sol” è un piccolo saggio poetico, una riflessione sulla profonda contemporaneità di un artista universale. “È affascinante vedere come le immagini di un altro possano suggerire e risvegliare ricordi e idee in noi, fino a diventare parte della nostra vita. In realtà girare è in qualche modo superfluo: basterebbe rimontare all’infinito immagini altrui per fare nuovi film” (I. Lacuesta).
Cinema doesn’t belong to the past. It is always in the present, because its images never cease to dwell in our time. This is the assumption on which Sol is based. The film is a personal variation by a contemporary filmmaker on the work of Charlie Chaplin – a little tribute and, at the same time, a reflection on the time of cinema, on its relevance, and on its persistence in the memory of both individuals and society. Conceived within a collective project according to which several artists would pay homage to the figure of Charlie Chaplin, Sol is a little poetical essay, and a reflection on the deeply contemporary nature of a universal artist. “I find it fascinating how the images by someone else can suggest and arouse memories and ideas in ourselves, and even become a part of our lives... Actually, shooting is somewhat redundant: one could merely re-edit others’ images endlessly to make new films” (I. Lacuesta).
