Abstract: Conclusione della trilogia di Halle-Neustadt. Jeannette Gleffe, la figlia di Heinz e Ingrid, lavora come autista di autobus e ha ormai a sua volta una figlia, Annabelle. Il primogenito, Tommy, le crea problemi. Paul, il secondogenito è invece diligente e ottiene ottimi voti a scuola. Chris, l’amico di Tommy, ha dovuto rinunciare a frequentare i suoi amici skinhead dopo una lite con il padre. Attraverso un semplice segno di interpunzione, il punto dopo la parola «Kinder» del titolo, Heise rovescia l’espressione popolare, traducibile con «Figli, come passa il tempo», in una riflessione sui figli stessi e il tempo. Non più un commento, ma una constatazione e la descrizione di una modalità: «come trascorre il tempo», dove ciò che conta è il «come». Attraverso quel semplice punto, un’affermazione retorica e di uso comune viene rovesciata nel suo opposto: una riflessione che introduce anche una prospettiva e una distanza. Un procedimento quasi brechtiano che Thomas Heise conduce sino alle estreme conseguenze. Film di grande libertà, evidenzia come i percorsi del regista conducano in realtà sempre a nuove aperture piuttosto che a conclusioni, per quanto momentanee.
Final episode in the Halle-Neustadt trilogy. Jeannette Gleffe, Heinz and Ingrid’s daughter works as a bus driver, now has a daughter herself, Annabelle. The elder son, Tommy, gives her problems. Her second son Paul, instead, is a hard-working boy and obtains good grades at school. Chris, Tommy’s friend, was forced to give up meeting his skinhead friends after a bad row with his father. By means of a mere punctuation mark, the full stop after the word «Children» in the title, Heise reverses a common phrase like «Children, as time flies» and creates a reflection upon children themselves «and» time. It is not a comment, rather a realization, and the description of a mode: «how time goes by», where «how» is what counts. Thanks to that little mark, a rhetorical and common statement is reversed into its opposite: a reflection introducing some perspective and some distance as well. An almost Brechtian process which Thomas Heise brings to its extreme consequences. A film of great liberty, it highlights how the roads taken by the filmmaker actually lead to ever new apertures rather than closures, however temporary.
