Abstract: La regista Katarina Peters ha 40 anni quando si innamora di Boris Baberkoff, un talentuoso e carismatico violoncellista di 33 anni con una gran gusto per la vita. In poco tempo, la coppia è sposata e persegue le sue passioni artistiche comuni. Viaggiano a New York, quando improvvisamente Baberkoff crolla e il mondo degli sposi viene sconvolto. Baberkoff ha subito diversi ictus ed è prigioniero del suo stesso cervello. Può sentire ma non è in grado di muoversi o comunicare; le sue possibilità di recupero, anche parziale, sembrano scarse. In preda alla disperazione, Katarina prende la videocamera e comincia a registrare un diario dell'ictus, rivolgendosi all'arte come mezzo di sopravvivenza. Con i conti dell'ospedale americano che aumentano, è costretta a trasportare prematuramente Baberkoff in Germania, dove inizia a trovare un percorso per tornare nel mondo esterno. Filmmaker Katarina Peters is 40 when she falls in love with Boris Baberkoff, a talented and charismatic 33-year-old cellist with a zest for life. Before long, the couple is married and pursuing their shared artistic passions. They travel to New York, when suddenly Baberkoff collapses and the newlyweds' world is turned upside down. Baberkoff has suffered multiple strokes and is a prisoner of his own brain. He can hear but is unable to move or communicate; his chances of even partial recovery appear slim. In desperation, Katarina takes up her camera and begins to record a stroke diary, turning to art as a means of survival. With U.S. hospital bills mounting, she's forced to prematurely transport Baberkoff back to Germany, where he begins to find a path back to the outside world. Peters meticulously documents Baberkoffs arduous recovery, capturing both her husband's extraordinary strength and fragility. But this is also her story. Through a series of impressionistic dream sequences, Peters recreates her tortured state of mind. Wildly cinematic, Stroke is an emotional tour de force.
