Abstract: Il regista di “Sans soleil” ci invita a uno dei suoi viaggi segreti. Ma questa volta non siamo in Siberia, in Cina e nemmeno in Giappone. Con “Chats Perches”, Chris Marker è tornato nella Parigi di Joli Mai, tra il settembre 2001 e l'autunno 2003. La sua guida, tra gli eventi che punteggiano questa nuova cronaca poetica e politica: M. Chat. Questo faceto gatto, discendente di Alice e nipotino di Miyazaki, mostra il suo sorriso malizioso sui muri e sui tetti della capitale francese. Questo gioco di tracce, tutto in gustosi collage, ci conduce dalla campagna presidenziale francese del 2002 al dibattito sul velo islamico, passando per la guerra in Iraq, la crisi degli intermittents du spectacle e le battute di Mr. Raffarin. Marker moltiplica digressioni, ammiccamenti, battute e facezie, con l'aiuto di questo compagno virtuale ma provvidenziale, che appare e scompare a seconda delle occasioni, ma lo aiuta a vagare per la città e a cogliere la magia del momento.
The director of “Sans soleil” invites us on one of those journeys to which he alone has the secret. But this time, we’re neither in Siberia, nor in China, nor even in Japan. With “Chats Perches”, Chris Marker rediscovers the Paris of Joli Mai, between September 2001 and autumn 2003. His guide, between the events that punctuate this new poetic and political chronicle: Monsieur Chat. This facetious tom¬cat, grandson of Alice and nephew of Miyazaki, plasters his malicious grin over the walls and the roofs of the Parisian capital. This treasure hunt, a series of delightful collages, leads us from the French presidential campaign of 2002 to the debate on the Islamic veil, covering the war in Iraq, the crisis caused by the workers in the entertainment industry without steady employment and the jokes of Mr. Raffarin. Marker multiplies the digressions, the veiled references, jokes and witticisms, aided by this virtual but providential companion who appears and vanishes as the occasion demands, but helps him to paint the town red and capture the magic of the moment.
