How does life flow for the people of Fengje before everything disappears underwater? One of the most celebrated cities of classical Chinese poetry, and birthplace of poet Li Bai, is located where the so-called “Three Gorges” dam is to be constructed - the massive engineering work which will flood a vast area of China. covering places of unique natural beauty, human settlements and historical relics forever. Very little remains of the poetic beauty sung by Li Bai. The region’s inhabitans live in conditions which are miserable, their earning possibilities are low and the move hanging over everyone’s head obliges them to come to terms with gobernment authorities, always offering seemingly inadequate compensation for what is being expropriated. "Before we went there, many of our friends suggested that our film would capture the beauty and sentiment of Fengjie, 'the town of poetry'. Some of the most-recited poems in Chinese history were written there, the Three Gorges themselves are a poem of nature, and the locals create poems every day. We said, sure! Poetry is central to our creative work and would be the theme of our film. But once we were there, it appeared impossible to respond with poetr to the tears of a war veteran, or to portray the daily lives of group of porters who live in squalor, like dogs. Everyone wai talking about one thing: home. Home is the only important thing and the most valuable. Even in the church, each song sung spoke of home" (Li Yifan and Yan Yu).
