Abstract: "The Women of Ravensbrück"è la prima documentazione completa sul più grande KZ (campo di concentramento) femminile della Germania nazista. È un collage dei ricordi di 50 donne che furono rinchiuse a Ravensbrück tra il 1939 e il 1945. Il tema conduttore del film è una cronologia della storia del campo. È rappresentata sulla base di materiale d'archivio esistente (foto), disegni di un'artista francese, ricordi, immagini della zona del campo come appare oggi e naturalmente sull’insieme delle memorie. Le narrazioni possono essere unite in un quadro come un puzzle, in cui le integrazioni, cose in comune e contraddizioni, offrono un'impressione complessiva di ciò che è accaduto. Gli intervistati, che guardano indietro dalla loro prospettiva attuale, hanno una cosa in comune: dopo Ravensbrück nessuno può portar loro via la gioia di vivere ritrovata. Questa forza positiva li fa parlare dei loro orribili ricordi, mentre la profonda fede nei lati più ottimisti della vita oscilla.
“The women of Ravensbrück” is the first comprehensive documentation on the largest women’s KZ in National Socialist Germany. It is a collage of the memories of 50 women, who were locked up in Ravensbrück between 1939 and 1945. Main storyline of the film is a chronology of the camp’s history. It is represented on the basis of existing archive material (photos), drawings of a French artist, keepsakes, pictures of the camp area as it looks today and of course on a compilation of the memories. The narrations can be joined together to a picture like a puzzle, in which supplements, things in common and contradictions result in an overall impression of what has happened. The interview partners, who look back from their present perspective, have one thing in common: after Ravensbrück nobody can take their regained joy of life away from them. This positive strength makes them talk about their horrible memories while a deep faith in the more hopeful sides of life swings along.
