Abstract: 28 luglio 1996. Sybille Tiedermann riceve una chiamata dall'Interpol. Suo fratello Klaus è stato trovato morto in una casa in Estonia. La polizia locale dice che è stato un attacco di cuore. Una versione a cui Sybille non può credere. All'epoca, conduce la propria indagine con i vicini e gli amici di Klaus, interroga le autorità locali e la registra in una pellicola Super 16. Sette anni dopo, tornata in quei luoghi, le domande che pone a se stessa sono cambiate: chi era questo fratello a cui era così legata e che un giorno decise di lasciare tutto per trasferirsi in Estonia? Perché il paese d'origine di suo padre era diventato un paradiso per lui? Oltre alle immagini delle sue indagini passate, la cineasta sovrappone una seconda fase di lutto, più lontana e serena, e la associa a una ricerca delle origini. Il lavoro di delucidazione immediata e ossessiva delle circostanze della morte del fratello - un giallo pieno di suspense e colpi di scena - si intreccia con un'introspezione più profonda: l'esplorazione di un destino familiare attraverso gli archivi, la scoperta di un paese originale, ma anche il lavoro di rivitalizzazione di un legame fraterno perduto. Un intero processo di accettazione del lutto.
July 28, 1996. Sybille Tiedermann takes a call from Interpol. Her brother Klaus was found dead in a house in Estonia. For the local police, it is a heart attack... A version that Sybille cannot believe. At the time, she conducts her own investigation with Klaus's neighbors and friends, questions the local authorities and records it all in a Super 16 film. Seven years later, when she returns to the scene, her questions have changed: who was this brother, whom she was so close to and who had decided one day to leave everything to settle in Estonia? Why had her father's country of origin become a paradise for him? In addition to the images of her past investigations, the filmmaker superimposes a second phase of mourning, more distant and soothed, and associates it with a quest for the origins. The work of immediate and obsessive elucidation of the circumstances of her brother's death - a detective story full of suspense and twists and turns - is interwoven with a deeper introspection: the exploration of a family destiny through archives, the discovery of an original country, but also the work of revitalizing a lost fraternal bond. A whole process of acceptance of mourning.
