Abstract: Il jazz è sempre stato più di una semplice forma di musica; era - ed è - uno stile di vita, un credo, un'espressione delle proprie origini. Il jazz è musica nera che si è sviluppata in una cultura bianca. Solo pochi dei grandi vecchi maestri del jazz sono ancora vivi; uno di loro è il sassofonista e compositore Yusef Lateef. Ad 84 anni, Yusef vive una vita molto appartata in una piccola casa di legno nelle foreste del Massachusetts. I registi Nicolas Humbert e Werner Penzel lo hanno visitato e hanno creato un ritratto cinematografico intimo sulla sua personalità e la sua musica.
Jazz has always been more than simply a form of music; it was – and is – a lifestyle, a creed, an expression of one’s origins. Jazz is black music that evolved in a white culture. Only a few of the great old masters of jazz are still alive today; one of them is saxophonist and composer Yusef Lateef. Today, at the age of 84, he lives a very secluded life in a small wooden house in the forests of Massachusetts. Filmmakers Nicolas Humbert and Werner Penzel visited him there and created an intimate cinematic portrait about the person and his music.
