Abstract: Turčišće, un villaggio nella regione Medimurje della Croazia settentrionale, č famoso per le sue tradizionali maschere di carnevale in legno lafras. Negli anni '60 era conosciuto a livello locale anche per lo spettacolo folkloristico che si teneva il martedě grasso. Da molti anni, perň, lo spettacolo non si tiene piů nel villaggio stesso, perché gli artisti preferiscono andare altrove e visitare altri carnevali. Tuttavia, nel febbraio del 2004 gli abitanti di Turčišće sarebbero stati disposti a ricostruire l’evento a beneficio delle telecamere, ma i creatori dello spettacolo si rifiutarono per rimanere fedeli all'approccio documentaristico. Ne č nato un film che parla di conflitti: tra i due costruttori di maschere e i loro gruppi carnevaleschi, tra le vecchie usanze e lo stile di vita moderno, tra la gente del posto e la troupe del film e, infine, tra il film stesso e ciň che oggi viene spacciato per cinema documentario, che č esattamente ciň che questo film intende prendere in giro.
Turčišće, a village in the Medimurje region of northern Croatia, is famous for its traditional wooden lafras carnival masks. In the 1960s it was known locally also for the folkloric show that was always performed on Shrove Tuesday. For many years, however, the show has no longer been held in the village itself, because the performers prefer to go elsewhere and visit other carnivals. Even so, in February 2004 the people of Turčišće would have been willing to stage the event for the crew and cameras, but the creators of the show refused to do it in order to stick to the documentary approach. The result is a film about conflicts: between the two mask makers and their carnival groups, between old customs and the modern lifestyle, between the locals and the film crew, and finally, between the film itself and what passes for documentary filmmaking today, which is exactly what this film makes fun of.
