Abstract: Il dottor Jean-Marie Bouvier è un medico condotto prossimo al pensionamento. Accompagnato dalla regista, in macchina e per strada, l’uomo passa a casa di anziani che attendono sereni o preoccupati la fine dei loro giorni. Oppure riceve in studio persone con problemi di alcolismo e salute. Con gli anziani nelle visite a domicilio e con gli altri nello studio, il dottor Bouvier è spiritoso, severo, paziente. Alla fine anche per lui ci sarà il tempo del riposo e della caccia. “Mi piace molto il titolo. La pazienza è anche la passione. I termini passione e pazienza hanno la stessa radice latina. Per me era come raccontare da dove venivo. Io venivo dal paese dei «pazienti». Trovavo bella l’idea che le persone aspettino, siano pazienti. Aspettano che cosa? Che il medico arrivi, che faccia il suo lavoro, che la morte venga; oppure no” (C. Simon).
Doctor Jean-Marie Bouvier is a medic nearing retirement. With director in tow, he makes house calls to elderly patients - some calmly, others anxiously awaiting their last days. He also receives patients in his office who suffer from alcoholism or other health problems. Whether on house calls or in his office, Bouvier is lively, blunt, patient. In the end, he too will have time for rest and leisure. “I like the title a lot. Patience is also passion. Passivity, passion, patience - they all have the same Latin root. For me it was like talking about where I came from. I came from a country of «patients». I found beautiful the idea that people who wait are patients. What are they waiting for? For the doctor to arrive? To do their work? To die? Or not” (C. Simon).
