Abstract: Mimi è una donna matura con una vita carica di esperienze e ricordi. Dalle sue parole prende forma la sua vita: dall’infanzia trascorsa nella povertà all’adolescenza vissuta con il peso di sentirsi diversa, dal rapporto difficile con la madre fino alle prime avventure con altre donne. Insieme alle parole di Mimi, ci si sposta da Nizza a Saorge, piccolo paesino nell’entroterra, dove la donna ha scelto di vivere come una pastorella, coltivando un campo e gestendo una trattoria. Ad accompagnarla c’è Diego, amico e musicista, col quale Mimi canta, evoca memorie, scherza… “Conoscevo Mimi da molto tempo. Una sera è venuta a cena a casa mia e mi ha raccontato la storia di sua madre. Mi è bastato un momento nella notte seguente per sentire che c’era da farne un film. Prima delle riprese, Mimi mi aveva anche detto che aveva cercato di scrivere i suoi ricordi ma che aveva rinunciato perché l’emozione si perdeva nel testo. Mi disse: ‘Quando racconto rivivo la scena, ma quando mi rileggo non funziona più’. Ho subito pensato: ‘Ecco un’attrice!’. Ho dunque capito che bisognava smettere di preparare e fare di tutto per filmare solo le storie che lei mi avrebbe raccontato per la prima volta” (C. Simon).
Mimi is a mature woman with a life full of experiences and remembrances. Her words give shape to her life: from her impoverished childhood to the burdens of feeling different in adolescence, from her troubled relationship with her mother to her initial adventures with other women. Mimi’s narrative carries us to Nice au Saorge, a small inland town where she has chosen the farmer’s life, cultivating a field and managing a restaurant. Accompanying her is Diego, a musician friend with whom Mimi can sing, recall old memories, joke… “I had known Mimi a long time. One night she came to my house for dinner and told me the story of her mother. The next night it struck me that her story could be made into a film…Before shooting, Mimi told me that she had tried to write her story down, but given up because she found the life went out of it. She told me: ‘When I tell it I relive the scene, but when I reread it, it doesn’t work anymore.’ I immediately thought: ‘Here’s an actress!’ I realized that we needed to stop rehearsing and do everything in our power to only film the stories as she told them to me for the first time” (C.
