Abstract: Nizza. È notte. Magali sta cercando di raggiungere Alain, il marito che lavora in una radio. Di colpo i fari della macchina non funzionano più. Un piccolo incidente. Qualcuno la aiuta. Un momento di smarrimento. Un collega del marito le chiede se tutto va bene. La vede curva e stanca e pensa sia incinta. Magali non smentisce. Nasce così la gravidanza della donna, in una notte presso una barriera autostradale. La notizia poco a poco fa il giro di parenti e amici creando attesa e attenzione per la donna. Magali si impegna per salvare le apparenze: cambia taglia d’abiti e si dota di un kit di pance finte. Quando poi la falsa gravidanza arriva al termine, Magali piuttosto che svelare l’impostura decide di rapire un neonato. Solo quattro anni più tardi la polizia arriverà a comprendere l’accaduto e riporterà la bambina alla sua vera famiglia. “L’ultima immagine mostra Magali tra le fronde di un castano, sorridente. Per tutti i titoli di coda ci si avvicina a quel sorriso fino a scoprire i denti. Volevo mostrarla come un’orchessa. Nella passione amorosa la madre finisce per essere un po’ un orco che divora il bambino; così Magali resterà per sempre nell’animo di quella bambina.”
Nice. It’s night. Magali is going to meet her husband, Alain, who works for a radio station. Out of nowhere the headlights shut off and stop working completely. A minor accident occurs. Someone comes to help her. There's a moment of confusion. One of her husband’s colleagues asks her if she’s fine. He sees her doubled over and dazed, and he thinks that she is pregnant. Magali plays along. That's how her pregnancy begins- running into the barrier of a motorway. Slowly the news spreads among relatives and friends, focusing attention on this woman. Magali decides to keep up the charade. She buys bigger clothes and purchases a prosthetic stomach. When the fake pregnancy arrives at the end of its term, Magali, instead of revealing the truth, decides to steal a newborn. Only after four years do the police come to understand what has occurred and return the little girl to her real family. “The last image we see is that of Magali, visible through the foliage of a chestnut, smiling. All throughout the rolling of all the final credits, the camera closes in on that smile, until all we can see is her teeth. I wanted to depict her as an ogress. In her amorous passion the mother becomes a bit like an ogre, who devours the child. Because of this, Magali will always remain in the soul of this little girl.”
