Abstract: Durante la collettivizzazione forzata e le deportazioni in Siberia, avvenute tra il 1945 e il 1953, Edgars Kauliņš, direttore di un “kolchoz”, mise in salvo molti contadini, impiegandoli nella costruzione della fattoria modello. Tracciandone il ritratto, il film si discosta da altri documentari coevi per un piů profondo senso del cambiamento storico e per l'abilitŕ nel leggere le emozioni sul volto dei personaggi. “Il protagonista del film era un uomo eccezionale e anche molto intelligente, cosě dopo la guerra, nel 1946, quando divenne membro del Partito, capě che non sarebbe mai riuscito a organizzare un “kolchoz” se non si fosse circondato di gente affidabile. Č importante notare il fatto che a lui si unirono sia quelli che avevano combattuto nell'Armata Rossa sia quelli che avevano combattuto per Franco, in Spagna. Kauliņš prese anche persone che erano state nelle SS, ma che non avevano ucciso nessuno” (H. Frank).
During the forced collectivization and deportations in Siberia, from 1945 to 1953, Edgars Kauliņš, director of a kolkhoz, saved many farmers by employing them in the construction of a model farm. Making the portrait, the film made use of documentaries of the time to create a deeper sense of the historic change and to better read the emotions on the people's faces. “The protagonist of the film was an exceptional and very intelligent man. After the war, in 1946, when he became a member of the Party, he realized he'd never succeed in organizing a kolkhoz without being around trustworthy people. It's important to note that those who fought with the Red Army and those who fought for Franco in Spain both worked together with him. Kauliņš even found people in the SS for a time, those who hadn't murdered people” (H. Frank).
