Abstract: La spiaggia è una terra di nessuno, a metà fra il mare e la terra. Essa esercita tuttavia un’attrazione quasi magnetica sulle persone e, grazie al suo strano fascino, diventa il terreno per ogni sorta di «divertimento». Il film, infatti, descrive lo spazio stretto di una spiaggia e cerca di cogliere il senso di assoluta libertà che si respira in questo luogo di profonda relazione tra l’uomo e la natura. Con uno sguardo di grande poesia, il regista mostra le attività di una delle spiagge più vivaci del mar Baltico. Qui soldati, pescatori, motociclisti, discendenti dei cavalieri medievali, si raccolgono per dimenticare per un attimo gli obblighi della civiltà. Dietro allo sguardo documentario, apparentemente freddo, di Dainis Kļava si nasconde un umorismo surreale che commenta con un sorriso le vicende degli esseri umani.
The beach is a no man’s land between sea and land. It holds an almost magnetic sway over people and, thanks to this strange attraction, becomes the place for all kinds of «diversions». The film, in fact, describes the narrow strip of beach and tries to evoke the sense of absolute liberty one breathes in this place of profound relations between man and nature. With a great, poetic gaze, the director observes the activities of one of the most lively beaches in the Baltic Sea. Here, soldiers, fishermen, motorcyclists (the descendants of medieval horsemen), all gather to momentarily forget their civil obligations. Behind the apparently cold gaze of Dainis Kļava, there resides a surreal humor that comments with a smile on the comings and goings of human beings.
