Abstract: In uno stile lirico, eppure non sentimentale, il film racconta le vite di bambini malati di leucemia, ricoverati nell'ospedale pediatrico di Vilnius, lo stesso dove la figlia di Matelis ha combattuto quella malattia qualche tempo prima dell'inizio della produzione. Il film viene descritto come “un documentario poetico e non patetico sulla capacitŕ di recupero dello spirito umano”. Quello che ha spinto maggiormente il regista a realizzare questo film č la condizione in cui vivono i bambini dell'ospedale, sospesi tra la spensieratezza dell'infanzia e l'incredibile livello di maturitŕ cui la malattia li ha costretti. Per questo film Matelis ha ricevuto molti prestigiosi premi internazionali. Il film rappresenta un'intensa meditazione sulla realtŕ e sulla morte, una storia sul significato recondito del mondo, sui miracoli dell'esistenza e sui segreti della natura umana.
Lyrical yet unsentimental, the film depicts the lives of children with leukemia recovering in Vilnius Pediatric Hospital, the same place Matelis' daughter fought the disease before shooting the film. The film was described as “a documentary that is poetic, not pathetic, in its capacity to recover the human spirit.” What really moved the director to make this film were the conditions in which the children in the hospital live through, caught between the lightheartedness of childhood and the incredible level of maturity which the sickness forces them into. Matelis won many prestigious international awards for this film. The film is an intense meditation on reality and death, a story with worldwide significance about the miracles of existence and the secrets of human nature.
