Abstract: Aula affollata, corpi tesi, sguardi acuminati. I dirigenti moderano un’assemblea in cui si alternano le voci degli operai e quelle dei colletti bianchi. Al centro del dibattito la posizione d’un ingegnere che sembra aver deciso il fallimento di un traguardo produttivo per scrupoli sulla qualitŕ del prodotto. Le argomentazioni oscillano bruscamente tra la delazione pura e l’analisi funzionale. Quel che inizialmente sembra un consiglio generale di fabbrica assume via via i toni dell’assemblea sindacale, poi quelli del processo di piazza. L’opportunitŕ di una scelta tecnica si ritrova improvvisamente verificata dal giudizio morale, il vaglio dei dati oscurato dall’ingombro della maldicenza. Marcel Łozinski – agli inizi della carriera – sfrutta con luciditŕ il dispositivo dello psicodramma: costruisce una scena madre che sembra tirata fuori dalla piů blindata delle sceneggiature e, appena sotto la superficie, tesse una critica fine e profonda alla dittatura della burocrazia e a un sistema – la Polonia Popolare – che fa della rappresentazione uno strumento di supremazia e controllo. Nel lieto fine apparentemente pacificato e liberante le risate dei protagonisti riecheggiano a lungo, caricandosi, prima di spegnersi del tutto, di riverberi dissonanti.
A crowded room, tense people, blazing eyes. Some managers are moderating a meeting where workers and executives alternately take the floor. The heated debate deals with the stance of an engineer, who has apparently decided to fail a production goal because he doubts the technical quality of the product. The reasoning swings suddenly from sheer laying of information to production process analyses. What looked like a works council gradually takes on the overtones of a union meeting and eventually those of a jury trial. Choosing the correct technical option is suddenly influenced by moral judgment, the assessment of working efficiency replaced by the condemnation of social life, the scrutiny of facts and figures obscured by the burden of malicious gossip. Early in his career, Marcel Łoziṅski exploited a device provided by the same institution he is observing and scrutinizing, psychodrama, with cunning and a clear mind. Just below the surface, instead, he weaves some fine, profound criticism of the dictatorship of bureaucracy and of a system – the People’s Republic of Poland – that turns representation into a tool for supremacy and control. The film’s apparently reconciling and liberating happy end features the laughter of those who took part in the drama, that reecho, and reverberate dissonance, still for some time before petering out.
