Abstract: Paweł voleva fare un film su suo padre Marcel. Questi accetta di fare un film che veda entrambi davanti alla videocamera. Paweł rilancia, proponendo di fare un viaggio verso Parigi. Per Marcel è un viaggio che lo riporta nel suo luogo di nascita, per Paweł è una parte di un viaggio che non si è mai interrotto, quello alla ricerca di un confronto con il padre. Tra dubbi espressi e ferite riaperte, momenti gioviali e pesanti litigi, i due protagonisti approdano in un luogo fatto di luci ed ombre, che li spinge a raccontare due versioni differenti dello stesso viaggio. La versione di Paweł si distingue per pochi, significativi particolari da quella del padre che, già nel titolo, tiene a specificare che si tratta soprattutto della storia di un viaggio. A Paweł interessa invece andare in profondità, inoltrarsi nel passato, fare riemergere ciò che non è stato detto, in un tentativo di descrivere il complesso legame che lega un figlio ad un padre, legame d’amore capace di produrre anche sofferenza. Un film che è anche un esperimento, cinematografico e di vita, che mette in discussione la distinzione tra soggetto e oggetto, tra osservatore ed osservato.
Paweł wanted to make a film about his father Marcel. The latter accepted, as long as both were on camera. Paweł then proposed to travel to Paris. For Marcel this means to go back to his birthplace, whereas for Paweł this is just a portion of a permanent journey – the search for a dialogue with his father. In-between spoken-out doubts and re-opened wounds, cheerful moments and serious fights, the two leading characters land in a place made of lights and shadows. This will prompt them to tell two different versions of the journey. Paweł’s differs for a few, meaningful details from his father’s version, that actually is more about the journey as is clear from the very title. Paweł instead prefers to go deeper, explore the past, and excavate what was not said. His attempt is aimed at describing the complicated bond between a son and a father, a loving bond which produces pain nonetheless. This film – an experiment on two levels, in film and in life – questions the distinction between object and subject, between observer and observed.
