Abstract: Una stanza, tre persone sedute intorno a un tavolo; sopra di esso sono raccolti in un mucchio disordinato una quantità di lettere, foto e altri documenti; in fondo, lo schermo di un computer acceso. Wera e Marcel sono i figli – ormai anziani– di Tonja Lechtman, ebrea comunista già prima della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, arrestata nel 1949 con l’accusa di spionaggio (per conto degli americani). La terza persona è Marcel Łoziński, regista del film ma anche testimone direttamente coinvolto nella vicenda che si prova a ricostruire, amico intimo degli altri due e protagonista di un destino - bambino ebreo polacco sottratto ai genitori e condotto in orfanotrofio - simile al loro. Nel montaggio dei materiali che il film lavora accostandoli, sovrapponendoli, montandoli insieme, entrano così prima di tutto le tre persone che compaiono in campo, i loro corpi, le loro voci, le loro lacrime. Ognuno dei tre protagonisti è legato all’altro da fili diversi che si tendono e distendono in un fitto intreccio di emozioni, aspettative, richieste tutte sospinte in avanti lungo un doloroso processo di scoperta ed elaborazione degli “errori” commessi dai genitori.

Wera and Marcel are the now old children of Tonja Lechtman, a Jew and a pre-WWII communist. She was arrested in 1949 on the charge of being a spy (for the Americans). The third person is Marcel Łoziński, the film director, but also long-time friend of the other two, and a witness involved in the story that they are trying to reconstruct. Being a Polish Jewish child taken from his parents and sent to several orphanages, he has shared their destiny. The film cuts together the materials, juxtaposing and overlapping the images of the three people on screen, their bodies, their voices, and their tears. Each of the three characters is tied to the others by different threads, stretching, loosening, and weaving a tangle of emotions, expectations, and requests. This process moves forward along a painful path, discovering and coming to terms with the mistakes made by their parents.
