Abstract: Salito alla ribalta delle cronache nazionali alla fine degli anni Ottanta e ben presto tornato nel limbo delle storie ‘non notiziabili’, il caso dell’ACNA di Cengio (SV) è una vicenda emblematica del processo di industrializzazione del Paese, che affonda le sue radici in una pratica di sviluppo finalizzata interamente al profitto e totalmente indifferente ai costi, umani e ambientali, che questo comporta. La storia della fabbrica di Cengio (dinamitificio fino alla Prima Guerra Mondiale, convertito successivamente in industria chimica per coloranti), e della guerra vinta dai valligiani contro il moloc sbuffante che impesta il loro fiume, è insieme presa di coscienza di una prospettiva ecologica e riaffermazione di una indiscutibile identità di valle mutuata dalla tradizione.
The case of the ACNA factory in Cengio (Savona province, Italy) made national headlines at the end of the 1980s and was soon returned to the limbo of ‘non-newsworthy’ stories. It is an emblematic case of the industrialization process of the country, which has its roots in a development practice aimed entirely at profit and totally indifferent to the human and environmental costs involved. The story of the Cengio factory (a dynamite factory until the First World War, then converted into a chemical industry for dyes) and of the war won by the inhabitants of the valley against the puffing moloc that fouled their river, is at the same time an awareness of an ecological perspective and the reaffirmation of an unquestionable identity of the valley borrowed from tradition.
