More than a century ago, along the railroad tracks, the Bovisa area, Milan's chemical hub, was born. Smokestacks, sheds, gasometers, designed a monumental city with an existence marked by the sound of sirens. But a catastrophe struck the entire area and, one after the other, the factories were abandoned. Returning several times to the same places (in the 70's, 80's, 90's, and later...) the documentary tells of the spontaneous and marginal forms of life that have slipped into the spaces left empty by the great industrial mirage. Today, globalization has filled with faces and unknown languages what for decades remained a forgotten suburb. Provisional aggregates have been created that the city continues to erase: the mosque (removed while the film was being edited), the illegal Roma camp (cleared out at the end of filming), the illegal vegetable gardens cultivated by the elderly (with the eviction announced 20 years ago and now operational)...The film tells the story of 30 years of industrial decommissioning. It is three decades without any memory, expelled from history and from the memories of the "Great Milan" of the future. Time is the great narrator of the film. Human lives are only the characters that give time the chance to unfold its tale. "Dalle terre di nessuno" observes the ability of simple people to transform their destiny, projecting small daily dreams into the void left by the city's delusions of omnipotence.
