Abstract: "Out of place"è la storia, tutta al femminile, di un'iraniana che, nel 1987, decise di lasciare Teheran per trasferirsi in Israele. Dopo tanti anni, vorrebbe ritornare in Iran, un paese di cui rimpiange il calore umano e dove ancora vivono i suoi genitori e fratelli. Quella di Rachel è una storia sulla maternità e le identità multiple degli immigrati. E' la storia di una donna che ha perso le radici e il suo mondo, per andare alla ricerca di una patria ideale che non ha corrisposto alle sue aspettative e che, anzi, si trova quasi ad odiare perché le ha portato via il figlio. Rachel è una donna forte e volitiva che soffre e fa fatica a perdonare se stessa perché, decidendo di emigrare, ha cambiato la vita anche dei figli e del marito. Un personaggio, quest'ultimo, meno combattivo ma con una sua dignità e solidità affettiva. Una storia umana, dove l'impulsività di una giovane donna è contrapposta alle riflessioni della persona matura. E dove la politica internazionale e i difficili rapporti tra la Repubblica islamica e lo Stato ebraico restano, per una precisa volontà della regista, sullo sfondo.
"Out of place" is the all-female story of an Iranian woman who, in 1987, decided to leave Tehran and move to Israel. After so many years, she would now like to return to Iran, a country whose human warmth she regrets and where her parents and siblings still live. Rachel's is a story about motherhood and the multiple identities of immigrants. It is the story of a woman who has lost her roots and her world, in order to go in search of an ideal homeland that did not correspond to her expectations and that, on the contrary, she finds herself almost hating, because it took away her son. Rachel is a strong and strong-willed woman who suffers and finds it hard to forgive herself because, by deciding to emigrate, she has changed the lives of her children and her husband. A character, the latter, less combative but with its own dignity and emotional solidity. A human story, where the impulsiveness of a young woman is contrasted with the reflections of a mature person. And where international politics and the difficult relations between the Islamic Republic and the Jewish Nation remain, for a precise will of the director, in the background.
