Abstract: In "The Mamas and the Papas" la regista Janine Bakker ritrae una coppia lesbica e una gay che vogliono avere un bambino e crescerlo insieme. Il film li segue attraverso la gravidanza, il parto e i primi mesi di vita del neonato. In Olanda vivono più di 20.000 figli di genitori omosessuali. I bambini con due madri o due padri non sono più un'eccezione oggigiorno. Da quando la donazione anonima è stata proibita dalla legge, accade sempre più spesso che le coppie omosessuali scelgano la co-paternità e allevino un bambino che ha due madri e due padri. "The Mamas and the Papas"è la storia di Iris e Manon e di Edward e Patrick. Manon e Edward sono buoni amici da 15 anni. In "The Mamas and the Papas" director Janine Bakker portrays a lesbian and a gay couple who want to have a baby together and share the upbringing. The film follows them through pregnancy, childbirth and the first months of their newborn. More than 20.000 children of gay parents are living in the Netherlands. Children with two mothers or two fathers are not an exception anymore these days. Since anonymous donorship has been forbidden by law, it happens more and more often that gay couples choose for gay co-parenthood, and bring up a child with two mothers and two fathers. "The Mamas and the Papas" is the story of Iris & Manon, and Edward & Patrick. Manon and Edward have been good friends for 15 years. Edward has always wanted to be a father, and together with Manon and Iris, he put up the plan to have a baby together. When Patrick, the new partner of Edward, joins into the plan he is initially very enthousiastic. However, the baby is asking a lot of attention from everyone, and Patrick feels a bit neglected. Iris, the biological mother, becomes more emotional during the pregnancy and starts to feel unsure about sharing the baby with both men.
