Abstract: Winnetou muore tra le braccia del suo fratello di sangue Old Shatterhand. In Cinemascope, sullo schermo di un piccolo cinema di paese in Carinzia. In platea un ragazzino, l'adolescente Josef W. (interpretato da Kasimir Winkler), segue l'azione con grandi occhi, ipnotizzato. Angolo inverso e pausa: appare "Il camminatore dello schermo del cinema". Il "Poeta dei vitelli" (Wolfgang Bauer), l'autore di successo Josef Winkler, scende dallo schermo e guarda - con un sorriso malizioso - il suo alter ego bambino. È l'inizio di un viaggio frenetico, un cine-saggio, che dirotta gli spettatori, conducendoli attraverso l'Austria, il Messico e l'India nel mondo delle "immagini del ricordo" di Josef Winkler. L'occhio della cinepresa accompagna l'autore austriaco di successo e il pubblico in un poetico road movie, salta con spezzoni e angolazioni inverse dalla 'stalla consacrata' di un villaggio di montagna carinziano alle rive del Gange, e subito dopo ai piedi del Popocatépetl, mentre è in atto un'eruzione vulcanica.
Winnetou dies in the arms of his blood brother Old Shatterhand. In Cinemascope, on the screen of a small village cinema in Carinthia. In the audience a small boy, the adolescent Josef W. (played by Kasimir Winkler), follows the action with big eyes, mesmerized. Reverse angle and break: “The cinema screen walker” appears. The “Poet of the Calves´ Tether” (Wolfgang Bauer), the successful author Josef Winkler, descends from the screen and looks - with a mischievous smile - at his child Alter Ego. This is the start of a frantic journey, a cinematic essay, which hijacks the onlookers, leading them through Austria, Mexico and India into the world of Josef Winkler´s “images of remembering”. The camera’s eye accompanies the successful Austrian author and the audience in a poetic road movie, jumps in clips and reverse angles from the 'hallowed stable' in a Carinthian mountain village to the banks of the Ganges, and immediately afterwards to the foot of the Popocatépetl, experiencing a volcanic eruption.
