Abstract: Naomi Kawase approda in questo mondo più o meno nello stesso modo in cui lo fa la protagonista della sua prima fiction giapponese, nota come "Taketori Monogatari". In quel racconto del IX secolo, la "donna irreale" si rivela infine come un'aliena appartenente a un mondo lontano. È così che Cristián Leighton vede Kawase. L'ha cercata per molti anni; siccome lei non rispondeva alle sue e-mail, lui si è immerso nei suoi film, immaginando un mondo lontano. È questo il suo obiettivo? Oppure il suo spettro? Consapevole che i racconti della cineasta lo disturbano e generano in lui delle preoccupazioni, decide di intraprendere un viaggio esotico in Giappone alla ricerca di Kawase. Questo accade alcuni giorni prima che lei parta per Cannes. Il luogo in cui si trova la regista è ignoto, e Leighton intuisce che la "vera" Kawase è sempre più lontana. Le sue immagini resistono a scomparire dalla mente di Leighton, che inizia un'odissea nel proprio passato. All'improvviso, la ricerca si divide in due percorsi: uno va in direzione della Kawase; l'altro verso se stesso e la sua storia che è simmetrica, spettrale e ambigua, rispetto allo spirito che lo perseguita.
Naomi Kawase lands in this world much in the same way that the leading character of her first Japanese fiction known as “Taketori Monogatari”, does. In that IX century story, the “unreal woman” finally reveals herself as an alien belonging to a distant world. This is the way that Cristián Leighton sees Kawase. He has sought her for many years; as she doesn’t reply to his emails, he submerges into her films, imagining a faraway world. Is this his objective? His ghost? Aware that her stories disturb and worry him, he is encouraged to undertake an exotic voyage into Japan to find Kawase. This happens some days before she travels to Cannes. The filmmaker’s whereabouts are unknown, and Leighton intuitively perceives that the “real” Kawase is increasingly distant. Her images resist to disappear from Leighton’s mind, who is beginning an odyssey into his own past. All of a sudden, the search splits into two paths: one in Kawase’s direction and the other towards himself, his own story….which is symmetric, spectral and ambiguous in regards to the spirit that haunts him.
