Abstract: Un ritratto dell'architetto italiano Franco d'Ayala Valva realizzato da suo figlio, che cerca di capire il padre immergendosi nella sua vita e nel suo lavoro. Controverso padre di sei figli, sposatosi tre volte, questo 81enne, discepolo del genio americano Frank Lloyd Wright, ha trascorso più di cinquant'anni a costruire case in tutto il mondo e non ha intenzione di fermarsi, nemmeno di fronte alla frattura di una gamba. Seguendo per due anni la vita tumultuosa del padre sia a casa che al lavoro, il figlio esplora una vita dove il confine tra la sfera professionale e quella familiare è indecifrabile. Dalle dolci colline del Chianti, dove per 20 anni ha continuato a costruire la propria casa, al deserto dell'Arizona, dove ha vissuto nella bizzarra comunità "Taliesin" di Wright, fino a Città del Messico, dove andiamo a verificare se i suoi primi edifici siano ancora in piedi o meno, "La casa del padre" documenta la ricerca di identità di un figlio e i tentativi del padre di completare l'opera di una vita.

A controversial father of six, married three times, this 81-year old disciple of American genius Frank Lloyd Wright has spent more than fifty years building houses around the world and has no intention of stopping, even when faced with the fracture of his leg. By following his father’s tumultuous life both at home and at work over two years, the son explores a life where the boundary between the professional and the family spheres is blurred. From the rolling hills of Chianti, where he has been building his own home for 20 years, to the desert of Arizona, where he lived in Wright’s bizarre “Taliesin” community, to the cities of Mexico where we discover whether his first buildings are still standing or not, “The House of the Father” documents a son’s search for identity and his father’s quest to complete a life's work.
