Abstract: Un saggio cinematografico giocoso sulla nostra societŕ automobile-dipendente. Un film che travalica le prerogative del genere per trasformarsi in atto sociale. Dichiara il regista Martin Mareček: "Ho vissuto nel centro di Praga, nel 'cuore dell'Europa'. Praga č 'la madre delle cittŕ', ma anche 'la cittŕ delle automobili'... secondo le statistiche č una delle cittŕ piů disfunzionali d'Europa. Sei anni fa ho incontrato il mio vicino nell'ingresso del condominio. Stava traslocando: "Beh, ce ne andiamo, non ce la facevamo piů". Ho risposto: "Sě, capisco, sono le macchine, vero? Quel rumore, quell'odore...". Il vicino mi ha sorriso, perplesso: "Non proprio, il vero problema č che non c'č piů posto dove parcheggiare". Questa storia č assurda? Quel vicino č autistico? No. Penso che la maggior parte di noi, gente di cittŕ, siamo automobile-dipendente. Si poteva fare qualcosa per questo? Ho capito che fare un film non era sufficiente. Si sarebbe trattato solo in un altro breve saggio che proclama automaticamente ciň che č giŕ noto, rivolgendosi ai soliti destinatari. Quindi, da regista cinematografico mi dovevo lentamente trasformato in attivista civile, in radicale artistico, in lobbista politico. Č stato quindi concepito un organismo a piů livelli: "Auto*Mate"".
A playful film essay about our automobile-automatic society. A film crossing the border of its media, turning into a social act. Filmmaker Martin Mareček's statement: “I lived in downtown Prague, in the 'heart of Europe'. Prague is "the mother of all cities", as well as the 'city of cars'... according to statistics it's one of the most handicapped cities in Europe. Six years ago, I met my neighbor in the hallway. He was moving: "Well, we're off, we can't take this anymore." I replied: "Yeah, I understand, it's the cars, isn't it? That noise, that smell…" The neighbor smiled, puzzled: "Not really, it's more that there's nowhere to park." Is that story absurd? Is that neighbor autistic? No. I think that most of us city folks are this automobile-automatic. Can anything be done about that? I realized that to make a film is not enough. It will only turn into another short essay automatically saying the well-known, addressing the usual receivers. Therefore, I'd slowly turn from a film director into a civilian activist, an artistic radical, a political lobbyist. A multi-layered organism Auto*Mate was conceived.”
