Abstract: Due vicini di casa non si parlano da più di 15 anni; anzi hanno costruito non una, ma due siepi che li dividono. In questa storia visivamente avvincente, il regista va oltre l'animosità e svela gli incidenti che hanno scatenato questo conflitto mai più sopito. I giardini del villaggio di Tarm forniscono le scenografie per questo dramma mentre il regista padroneggia appieno la messinscena documentaria dove l'erba non è mai stata verde e il cielo non è mai stato coperto da nuvole così grandi e grigie. Con una raffica di risposte secche come solo la gente dello Jutland occidentale sanno dare, "Side by Side" offre un ritratto commovente degli esseri umani condito da un umorismo cinico.
Two neighbours live side by side, but they haven’t spoken for more than 15 years. Instead they have built not just one, but two hedges that separate them. In this visually compelling story the director goes far behind the animosity and unravels the incidents that stirred the conflict in the first place. The gardens of the village of Tarm supply the images for the drama and the director fully masters the staged documentary where the grass have never been green and the sky has never been covered by such large grey clouds. With played down lines that only people from Western Jutland can deliver Side by Side is a moving portrayal of human beings, which bubbles with dry humour.
