Abstract: Non tutto è stato raccontato sulla Prima Guerra Mondiale. Questo documentario cerca di spiegare l'inspiegabile: come decine di milioni di uomini abbiano potuto soffrire l'incredibile durezza della vita in trincea durante 4 anni, stagione dopo stagione, giorno dopo giorno, notte dopo notte? Come hanno potuto accettare l'idea morire o di restare feriti mentre non sapevano nemmeno dire il motivo esatto per cui stavano combattendo? Questo documentario di montaggio, composto da filmati d'archivio restaurati, colorati e sonorizzati, mostra come la "guerra per porre fine a tutte le guerre" fu portata avanti dal consenso generale. Le nazioni si gettarono in quella che pensavano fosse una lotta di civiltà contro la barbarie. Si unirono così al primo massacro di massa moderno, senza la minima idea di ciò che li aspettava. Attraverso la storia di un soldato che ha vissuto tutta la guerra e che parla anche a nome dei suoi compagni, questo film offre una nuova visione di questo conflitto la cui portata e la cui furia hanno prefigurato e generato le tragedie del XX Secolo.
Not everything has been told about the First World War. This documentary tries to explain the inexplicable: how could tens of millions of men suffer the incredible harshness of life in the trenches for four years, season after season, day after day, night after night? How could they accept the idea of dying or being wounded, when they could not even say exactly why they were fighting? This documentary of montage, composed of restored, colourful and soundtracked archive footage, shows how the "War to end all wars" was carried out by general consensus. Nations threw themselves into what they thought was a fight of civilisation against barbarism. They joined in the first modern mass slaughter, without the slightest idea of what awaited them. Through the story of a soldier who lived through the whole war and who also speaks on behalf of his comrades, this film offers a new vision of this conflict whose scope and fury prefigured and generated the tragedies of the 20th century.
