Abstract: Henning Boilesen sembra essere il nome di una strada scelta a caso nella città esotica di San Paolo. Chi era il signor Boilesen? I residenti non ne sono esattamente sicuri, e questo è un motivo sufficiente per i registi per iniziare un'indagine. Imparano presto che la strada prende il nome da un uomo d'affari danese ucciso dai soldati a San Paolo nel 1971. Ma perché? Utilizzando filmati d'archivio in bianco e nero e interviste a scrittori, psicologi, manifestanti di sinistra ed ex soldati, "Citizen Boilesen" ricostruisce l'illustre passato del danese. Questo sosia di Kirk Douglas (come lo definisce un testimone) era davvero un uomo carismatico e popolare? C'è del vero nelle storie sulla sua amicizia con il politico ultra violento Sergió Fleury? Per dare allo spettatore un'impressione della lotta politica tra destra e sinistra e della cultura della paura e del terrore degli anni '60 e '70, il regista Chaim Litewski intervalla le interviste con spezzoni di film. La musica nazionalista sulla patria brasiliana accompagna filmati d'archivio di manifestazioni, processioni funebri e rivolte. Henning Boilesen would seem to be somewhat of a random street name in the exotic city of São Paolo. Who is Mr. Boilesen? The residents aren't exactly sure, which serves as reason enough for the filmmakers to start an investigation. They quickly learn that the street was named for a Danish businessman who was killed by soldiers in São Paolo in 1971. But why? Using black-and-white archive footage and interviews with writers, psychologists, leftist demonstrators and former soldiers, "Citizen Boilesen" reconstructs the Dane's illustrious past. Was this Kirk Douglas lookalike (as one person typifies him) indeed a charismatic, popular man? Is there any truth to the stories about his friendship with the ultraviolent politician Sergió Fleury? To give the viewer an impression of the political struggle between left and right and the culture of fear and terror of the 1960s and 1970s, director Chaim Litewski intersperses the interviews with excerpts from feature films. Nationalistic music about the Brazilian fatherland accompanies archive footage of demonstrations, funeral processions and riots. Through the amazing life of Boilesen Henning, the documentary reveals the connection between political and military entrepreneurs in the armed struggle during the Brazilian military regime.
