Abstract: "Tutte le mie poesie sono sull'amore e la morte, non ci sono altri temi" ha scritto Boris Ryzhy, il famoso poeta russo, nel 2000. "Ma nonostante tutto, sono felice con mia moglie e mio figlio". Un anno dopo aver scritto queste parole, l'affascinante "poeta hooligano" si è impiccato. Aveva solo 26 anni. Mentre la cineasta intraprende una ricerca per capire le ragioni del suicidio, rivela la tragedia nascosta della generazione perduta della perestroika, alla quale Boris ha dato voce. "Siamo stati buttati fuori dal comunismo, ma non abbiamo mai raggiunto il capitalismo" dice la giovane vedova. Gli anni della perestroika dell'era Jeltsin, che l'Occidente associava alla democrazia e alla libertà, sembravano molto diversi nelle strade senza legge di Ekaterinenburg, dove i gangster si massacravano quotidianamente. Nel cimitero coperto di neve, i volti dei compagni di classe di Boris si stagliano su lapidi di marmo nero. Ma nonostante questa triste realtà, il film ha un tocco tragicomico. Si tratta in definitiva di celebrare l'amore di Boris per la vita: attraverso le sue poesie, il dolore si trasforma in grazia.
"All my poems are about love and death; there are no other themes"– wrote Boris Ryzhy, the famous young Russian poet in 2000. "But despite everything, I’m happy with my wife and son". A year later this charming hooligan poet hung himself. He was just 26 years old. As the filmmaker embarks on a quest to understand the reasons for his suicide, she reveals the hidden tragedy of the "lost perestroika generation", to whom Boris gave a voice. "We were thrown out of communism, but never reached capitalism" as his young widow puts it. The Perestroika Years of the Jeltsin era, which the West associated with democracy and freedom, felt very different in the lawless streets of Yekaterinenburg, where gangsters slaughtered each other on a daily basis. In the snow-covered cemetery the faces of Boris’ classmates stare out from black marble tombstones. But despite this grim reality, the film gets a tragic-comic touch. It’s ultimately about Boris’ love for life: through his poems, pain is transformed into grace.
