Abstract: Il film segue l'artista israeliano Zvi Lachman durante il decennio 1998-2008. È incentrato su momenti di conversione, che assemblano frammenti del passato culturale per drammatizzare la 'differenza', come la tensione tra figure monumentali e minuti dettagli quotidiani, così come tra l'io e l'altro. L'identità ebraica israeliana - di importanza fondamentale per Lachman è vista come emergente da altre tradizioni. Queste 'differenze' culminano in un illuminante incontro artistico - senza mai ignorare la politica - tra la magistrale ritrattistica di Lachman e la suggestiva lettura di Muhamad Ali del suo poema "Thrombosis in the Veins of Petroleum". Il lavoro di Lachman sfida le concezioni tradizionali di rappresentazione e i codici accettati di identità religiosa e culturale. The film follows Israeli Artist Zvi Lachman during the decade 1998-2008. It centers on moments of conversion, which assemble fragments of the cultural past to dramatize 'difference', such as the tension between monumental figures and minute daily details, as well as between the I and its Other. Israeli Jewish identity - of paramount significance to Lachman - is seen as emerging from other traditions. These 'differences' culminate in an enlightening artistic – never ignoring the political - encounter between Lachman’s masterly portraiture, and Muhamad Ali’s evocative reading of his poem "Thrombosis in the Veins of Petroleum". Lachman’s work challenges traditional conceptions of representation as well as accepted codes of religious and cultural identity. American critic Geoffrey Hartman (NY Arts) describes Lachman as “one of the best, if not the best sculptor working presently in Israel".
